River Editor

The River Editor is used to create rivers. The River Editor is a built-in WYSIWYG (What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get) editing tool which provides near real-time feedback so that you can see the changes and additions as you make them.

To access the River Editor, activate it from the main menu of the World Editor by selecting Tools > River Tool or the toolbar:

Create Mode

Create mode can be activated by holding the Alt key. Create mode is used for adding new rivers or adding nodes to existing rivers.

Adding Rivers

By clicking on a point on the terrain with no river while holding the Alt key, the first node of a new river is created and the river is selected. By clicking on additional points on the terrain while holding down Alt, more nodes can be added to the river (see Adding Nodes to Rivers).

Selecting Rivers

Rivers that the cursor is hovering over are shown with a blue outline. lmb click selects a hovered river.

Once a river is selected, its outlines turn white and the nodes are shown as red spheres. Also all the parameters of the river can be viewed and edited in the Inspector window of the editor, just like any other object.

Nodes

Nodes are the spline points of a river and contain a position, a width and a depth.

Adding Nodes to Rivers

Holding down the Alt key while mouse hovering on top of the selected river and then lmb clicking inserts a new node at this position. lmb clicking outside of a selected river while holding down the Alt key adds a new node on that position that gets added to the end of the river. A node can be added before the first node by selecting the node at the beginning and adding a node. Holding lmb instead of clicking normally, allows you to change the width of a created node by moving the cursor horizontally and releasing at the desired width.

Removing Nodes

A node is removed by selecting it and then pressing Delete.

Node Properties

With a node selected, you can change the position, width and depth of it in the Inspector window.

Other features

Width Override

With a river selected, you can select “Width Override” in the Inspector window to set the width of all nodes of this river to a certain value.

Splitting river

With a node selected, there is a button in the Inspector window “Split River” with which the river is split into two rivers at the position of the selected node.

Setting Description
Default Width The default width a newly created river starts with.
Default Depth The default depth a newly created river starts with.
Default Height The distance of newly added nodes to the ground when placing them.
