Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting

This section covers common issues and their solutions when working with the Drive Path Editor.

Vehicle-Path Link Issues

Vehicle not following the path

Problem: AI vehicle doesn’t drive along the assigned path spline.

Cause: Vehicle and path are not properly linked or vehicle is not drivable.

Solution:

  • Check the link status - Ensure vehicle and path are properly linked
  • Verify vehicle is drivable - Make sure the vehicle can actually drive:
    • Check if parking brake is engaged
    • Ensure vehicle is responsive to controls
    • Verify vehicle is not damaged or stuck
  • Test with a different vehicle - Try linking another vehicle to the path
  • Check console for errors - Look for any error messages about the link

Playback Problems

Playback not starting or advancing

Problem: Can’t execute AI driving simulation or timer not advancing.

Cause: Link issues, vehicle problems, or velocity profile issues.

Solution:

  • Check vehicle-path link - Same as above, ensure proper linking
  • Verify timer advancement - Check if the simulation timer is progressing
  • Try a different vehicle - Link another vehicle to test
  • Check velocity profile - Ensure velocity settings are reasonable
  • Reset properties to defaults - All sliders have reset buttons in these tools
  • Check console for errors - Look for any error messages

Navigation Graph Issues

Navigation graph not rendering or visible

Problem: Can’t see waypoints or navigation data.

Cause: Camera position or map doesn’t have navigation graph.

Solution:

  • Move the camera around - Navigation graph may be in a different area
  • Check map support - Verify the map actually has a navigation graph
  • Switch to Free Mode - If no nav graph, use free-form path drawing instead
  • Check console for errors - Look for any navigation graph loading errors

Path Validation Issues

Path validation fails

Problem: Spline is rejected as an invalid route.

Cause: This shouldn’t happen in normal operation.

Solution:

  • If this occurs, it may indicate a bug
  • Check console for specific validation error messages
  • Try creating a simpler path
  • Report the issue with steps to reproduce

Velocity Profile Problems

Velocity profiles not applying or working

Problem: Speed settings don’t affect vehicle behavior.

Cause: This may indicate a bug in the tool.

Solution:

  • Check that velocity profile controls are enabled
  • Verify bar handles are properly positioned
  • If the problem persists, this may be a bug - report it
  • Try resetting velocity profile to defaults

Performance Issues

Tool becomes slow with complex paths

Problem: Tool becomes unresponsive when working with complex driving routes.

Cause: Too many path splines or very long routes.

Solution:

  • Reduce the number of path splines in the scene
  • Break long routes into shorter segments
  • Simplify complex path geometries
  • Reduce the number of linked vehicles

Spline Visibility Issues

Path spline disappears

Problem: Spline becomes invisible or can’t be found.

Cause: Spline may be underground, off-screen, or have color/lighting conflicts.

Solution:

  • Use the “Go To Spline” button to locate and focus on the spline
  • Check if the spline is underground or positioned off-screen
  • Adjust lighting or color settings if there are visibility conflicts

Session Management

Path splines disappear between sessions

Problem: Work is lost when restarting the tool.

Cause: Splines are designed not to persist between sessions by default.

Solution:

  • Use the round-trip recovery system to import existing splines
  • Select path objects in the scene tree to estimate spline parameters
  • The tool can recover splines from scene meshes automatically

Parameter Reset

Driving behavior not working as expected

Problem: Vehicle behavior is unexpected or parameters seem wrong.

Cause: Parameters may be set to extreme values.

Solution:

  • Reset all parameters to their default positions using reset buttons
  • Adjust settings gradually from defaults
  • Check that behavior controls are within reasonable ranges
  • Verify that the vehicle supports the desired behavior settings

When to Report Bugs

If you encounter any of these issues, they may indicate a bug:

  • Velocity profiles not applying
  • Path validation completely failing
  • Vehicle-path links breaking unexpectedly
  • Tool window freezing without performance cause
  • Undo/redo history not working properly
  • File corruption or unreadable data

Recommendation: Reload the tool and try again. If the problem persists, check the console for error messages and report the issue with specific steps to reproduce.
